Approach
A combination of traditional psychotherapeutic methods/approaches enveloped with creative elements and spiritual practices, each working in harmony with the others to form an individually designed, personally unique therapeutic experience
What lies behind us and before us is tiny compared to what lies within us
Starting therapy initially can be like stepping into the unknown. Sometimes, fear and anxiety come up when you walk through the door the first time. Many questions may come to mind, “How long will this last?” or “How can I talk to someone whom I don’t know about my thoughts and feelings?”
This concern is normal! Everything you share is within an atmosphere of kindness and acceptance and remains completely confidential. As we create a working partnership, we will establish a foundation of trust. I will not think of how to ‘diagnose’ you, or what information or method I must ‘prescribe’ for you, rather I’ll be present with you. As we begin the journey, I’ll come with openness, awareness and the ability to be present with you.
To start, I will listen and ask questions to help me know who you are and the issues that concern you. Together, we clarify the ‘what and why’ of things that are not working for you. We will explore your life experience and identify blocks in the emotional, mental, personality and ego structures that are the roots of repetitive and painful, repetitive behaviors. Then we’ll develop a therapeutic approach which serves your healing process. We will create a “roadmap” to guide and support your journey.
Next, in middle of your experience, the bulk of your work takes place. We systematically explore and engage the issues and your goals. I’ll guide, coach and support you as you examine, process and resolve past painful experiences. Sometimes, these sessions unearth emotions and sources of pain and can go very deep. We may need to debrief afterward or stay in closer communication until the next session. I will be available for you. I am here to support your sense of safety well-being. Much of your significant healing takes place during this period.
Resolving to stay with these sessions and see them through requires commitment and dedication. The work can be challenging.
Toward the final phase of therapy, we weave together the finishing threads of your process. We’ll have established mutual trust and now focus on your ability to trust yourself. I will have held space for you to create and learn your own capacity for healing. In a way, my intent will be to ‘work myself out of a job’. At that point we will discuss what tools you have mastered, and how you will move forward – self confident, embodying the life you seek.
Be kind whenever possible.
It’s always possible.
