Background

I am a native Californian and have lived most of my life on the west coast. As I grew up, I came to know my life’s passion is to assist others through the challenges of healing and achieving wholeness in life. In 1978, I worked as a counselor in an adolescent mental health treatment program. I found myself spending many hours beyond my scheduled time, sometimes more than six days per week. I enjoyed being there so much, I did not want to leave. I knew at that time that helping others find peace within themselves was the true calling of my life. Over many years, I focused my passion, skills and education toward private practice therapy. There, I work with individuals, couples, groups, families – anyone who experiences inner pain and struggles to find a meaningful, satisfying experience of their lives. The past several years, I began working with those who suffer from religious and cult trauma.

From the beginning I asked myself the same fundamental question that my clients ask themselves: ‘Who am I’? What is my purpose/reason? Why am I here?’ This is a lifelong journey. Mindfulness and contemplative meditation help me continuously discover and come to know my essential self. Mindfulness practice creates an experience of awareness and presence within one’s body and mind, rather than simply experiencing whatever story your mind is creating about what is happening in daily life. Together, my clients and I work to quiet the mind and learn to listen and come to know the answers to those important life questions.

Live in the sunshine, swim in the sea, drink the wild air

Ralph Waldo Emerson

One’s inner state serves as a threshold where many unknowns emerge and come together. I want to introduce you to a marvelous person whom you may not have met…..yourself! We’ll embark into the unknown as we discover who you are and what your own journey is about. Some may feel discomfort or confusion as we reach certain places; you’ll not be alone, I’ll be with you. When we meet there and you receive an experience of a deeper connection, genuine inner healing takes place. A wounded heart spontaneously regenerates when touched by an open heart. We’ll create a sese of wonder through the process of comprehension, kindness, and compassion.

It is my honor to be with you as a guide and partner as you find internal peace and recognize your true, essential Self.

I view human beings from a holistic, three-fold standpoint – physical, mental/emotional and spiritual. Human beings have a broad range of experiences and concerns. I strive to design interventions and therapeutic approaches that create the “best fit” for each individual, resulting in the most potent, complete and lasting therapeutic experience possible. My focus is to facilitate and assist my clients as they resolve the painful, repetitive patterns and experiences and develop a personal vision of their life and future.

My approach is developed to meet the individual needs of many and varied people, yet is anchored in a psychodynamic approach, based on the notion that behavior, mental and emotional well-being, the ability to trust oneself and experiencing inner contentment are strongly influenced by childhood experiences, conscious or unconscious choices and repetitive, sometimes intrusive thoughts and feelings. This approach works to improve awareness of old, repetitive patterns of “relationshipping”, this supports full growth potential and acceptance of one’s personal happiness and well being.

Speaking and sharing thoughts and feelings relative to daily challenges improves every aspect of life, including relationships with family, friends, colleagues and most importantly with oneself.
